2 In One Little Word

One Little Word® 2020 | START

We’re already almost 2 weeks into the New Year and I’m just now getting around to posting about my One Little Word for the year. Ha! I promise you I’ve had this word on my mind for a few months before 2020 even started. It just felt right.

START is defined as:

verb (used without object)
to begin or set out, as on a journey or activity.
to appear or come suddenly into action, life, view, etc.; rise or issue suddenly forth.

verb (used with object)
to set moving, going, or acting; to set in operation: to start an automobile; to start a fire.
to establish or found: to start a new business.

noun
a beginning of an action, journey, etc.
a signal to move, proceed, or begin, as on a course or in a race.

I think it’s a good word for this season of my life to focus on because lately I have felt like there are so many things that I need to START and I just need that extra little nudge to do it. I really do feel like this year I’m setting out on a journey not only to be more intentional about what I give my time and energy to, but also to start doing those things that I keep making excuses for – whether it be eating better, drinking more water or working out in a more consistent manner. I am finding that this word START has already infiltrated my life in numerous ways and it’s been fascinating to confidently grab a hold of it and let it guide me.

Before the new year, I found myself STARTing to do something that I’ve always wanted to do – learn how to play the ukulele. My word totally inspired me and I set out to learn it and have been practicing it every day ever since.

I’m also taking Ali’s One Little Word workshop this year and I know it’s going to help keep me focused on my word and I’m excited to see it all unfold in the coming days ahead.

Do YOU choose a word every year? If so, I’d love for you to leave me a comment and let me know. I’ve chosen a word for many years now, but this year, it feels different – more inspiring and I’m here for it.

Let’s go, START. I’m ready.

For many of the same reasons you chose START as your word, I chose TIME. I want to be more intentional with my time and do the things that matter most. I want to stop putting things off.
