Thistle & Poppy and a Reading Nook Makeover

Happy Thursday, friends! I’ve been wanting to share some photos of this cute little reading nook space that I created in Caylin’s room for a bit now, but I’ve been adding touches to it here and there since we moved (last Fall) and so even though there might be a couple more things I’d like to do to it – I couldn’t wait any longer to share it! Along with sharing this little cute new reading nook spot, I’m also going to share a really great company with you called, Thistle & Poppy!

Thistle & Poppy is a picture frame company that I ran across on Instagram a few months back. I was just scrolling through and had seen someone talk about them and went to check them out and just LOVED their snap point frames. As you know – I’m a big photograph lover and a big photograph taker and so cute frames are really important to me because I really think that we need to get our photos printed out and displayed in our home. I love to frame a lot of photographs and so when I stumbled upon the Thistle & Poppy website I was giddy because it’s just such a cool idea for a picture frame and I knew I just had to share about it here on my blog.

Christie at Thistle & Poppy was so kind and sent me a frame to review. I was able to go through the complete process of designing my very own frame from start to finish and it was super fun and super easy. I’m going to share more about that in just a second, but first …

Here’s a shot of the reading nook. It’s not the easiest spot to photograph since it’s not that big and the angles and lighting aren’t the greatest, but this is shot of it from near the window.

Now, check out the super cute frame that I ordered from Thistle & Poppy. What to know the cool thing about this frame?

frame2

There are some super strong magnets on both the base of the frame (the white part) and the trim of the frame so that you can just replace the photo super easily and quickly AND you can interchange the trims for a complete different look for your frame. How ingenuous is that?! LOVE!

frame3

Thistle & Poppy frames are completely customizable AND interchangeable, which is so awesome and to top it off – they are unique in the fact that to add a photo to their frames – you just simply take off the trim piece on top, add your photo and then put the trim piece back on. I’m telling you – it takes like 2 seconds if that!

It was so easy and quick to customize and order my frame from their website. You just go to their website HERE and then click to “design your own” and then the website walks you through designing your very own frame. You choose your base, select your trim shape, select your colors and that’s it! There is even an option where you can upload your own photograph so that you can see EXACTLY what it’ll all look like in the frame you’re designing! Isn’t that great? I loved that option! I will add that their virtual frame designer works best in a browser other than Firefox, which is what I started out using. It does mention on the site already that the preferable browsers are chrome and safari – so just remember that when designing your own frame. I totally didn’t see that the first time. Hahaha!

I got the frame quickly after ordering it and it came packaged nicely and the frame was in great condition.

backframe2

I love how the frame comes with two hangers already on the back so you can hang them either horizontally OR vertically. There are also little round rubber protectors on the back of the frame to protect the wall as well. It’s really going the extra mile to me and I love that.

The frame was perfect for this spot on Caylin’s wall near her nook. :) I was trying to figure out what to put there for a bit and I’m so glad that I had this cute frame to put there.

frame

I originally ordered the base in a light yellow with a pink trim (I was going in another direction with her nook and then after I ordered it changed my mind – totally MY fault), but the cool thing is that it was super easy to paint and turned out great. The yellow that I chose in the beginning for the base was so pretty, too! I did also change the trim to match the pink perfectly that I had used elsewhere in her room as well. I loved how not only could you customize the frame on Thistle & Poppy’s website, but down the road if you change the colors of a room or want to give a room an update – you can easily paint the frame again! With all of the shape and color options – there are like 42,000 different frame combinations that you can come up with so you could even order a new trim piece and have an entirely new look!

I thought this frame would be a great frame for Caylin to put one of her original art pieces in. She can easily change out the art  as often as she’d like, which she is super excited about! Can I jut say that her little “Dream Big” art print totally makes me smile every time I see it. :)

Here are some other photos of her little reading nook:

nook1

You’ve gotta have a super cute comfy spot to sit, right? Bean bag from Target some years ago, “Caylin” pillow is from Sarah + Abraham HERE, flower pillow is from an Etsy shop awhile back and striped pillow is a pillow cover from IKEA.

books

Caylin has a big collection of books, but these are her favorites or some that she is wanting to read. I’m thinking that the one thing that I do want to add to this nook is some sort of shelf for her books to sit on.

nook2

More pillows and some of her favorite little stuffed friends. Monsters from Lu and Ed. We can’t get enough of those.

nook4

Some of her favorite books scattered about. :)

nook3

She has this little seat underneath a window near the book and so it of course was calling for a super cute afghan. This one is from The Company Store awhile back.

sign-nook

Then I added a couple of things inside the nook. This sign is from Target (I think).

print

This sign was created for Caylin by my sweet friend Lori from Whimsy Studios when Caylin was first diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. We had a fundraiser and we auctioned off some of those prints and Lori was sweet enough to send Caylin a super cute framed one (which was the original art piece). It has one of my most favorite Bible verses on it (1 Peter 5:7).

banner2

This little felt circle banner I just draped above her window. Please excuse the piece of wood and nail holes in the window frame. Goodness, the people who lived here before us totally destroyed the frame and put up this crazy wooden contraption that held a valance. We still need to fix it. It’s on my hubby’s to-do list. ;)

banner

I made this banner for Caylin’s room a LONG time ago and she still loves it and it still hangs in her room. I actually used to sell these. :) This is on the wall just opposite of the reading nook. :)

balloons

This balloon paper was one of my favorite pieces of scrapbooking paper a long time ago. I hoarded it and kept a piece to frame for Caylin’s room. It’s just so colorful, fun and whimsical. Perfect for the wall right next to the window. :)

Ok, well there you have it – a super cute new reading nook spot for Caylin and a super cute new frame from Thistle & Poppy to go in it.

Have a blessed day, everyone!
