One Little Word: 2014

content

My one little word for 2014 is CONTENT.

I’ve been choosing my one little word since 2011 and I have loved it.

In years past, I’ve chosen the words: goodness, shine and see. The past couple of years my word actually chose me and this year was no exception.

You see, I’ve been struggling a bit with just being content. Content in the moment. Content in the crisis. Content where I live. Content in my needs, wants and content in most importantly the blessings that I possess. I think finding true contentment in life is a struggle for a lot of us and so I wanted to focus on that in 2014 and so there you have my one little word: content.

So what is content?

The dictionary definition of content [kuhn-tent] is:

1. mentally or emotionally satisfied with the way things are

2. assenting to or willing to accept circumstances, a proposed course of action, etc.

3. to make oneself (or another person) content or satisfied

4. peace of mind

To me being content is truly being satisfied because God is working everything in our lives for our good and for His glory.

It’s so hard to just be content (adjective) in EVERYTHING, isn’t it? I know for me it is. I get antsy and start wanting to fix things or change things – like wanting to move into a bigger home or change this up and change that up and so on and so on.

It shouldn’t be so hard for me since I truly feel that the Lord has blessed me countless times over, but I still struggle with it from time to time. I’m looking forward to re-evaluating every situation during this upcoming year and remembering to just be CONTENT because God has my life.

I read this recently and it’s so true, “lack of contentment is a lack of satisfaction in God’s provision.”

Focusing on my one little word for 2014 is really going to bless me, I think. Seems like every year these “one little words” are much more than “one little words.” They help us grow and remind us of what we want to do, who we want to be and what we want to see in our lives.

I’m excited and looking forward to the fresh start that a new year brings.

I’m ready 2014. Contentment is achievable and filling up the content of your life with meaningful, good things is the way to go. :)

I’d love to know if you pick a one little word every year and if so, what yours is and why you chose it. Leave me a comment below! You can read more about one little word on Ali’s blog HERE.

Have a blessed day!

Happy 2014 to you as well! This is the first year I’ve chosen one word, although I’ve always admired the idea. My word for the year is DO.
