Elephantantrum: A Review

One of my favorite illustrators is Cally Johnson-Isaacs. Her illustrations are so sweet, whimsical and adorable. I was first introduced to Cally’s work one day while browsing the internet and finding the site www.welovetoillustrate.com. You should definitely check out that site if you haven’t already – lots of other awesome illustrators on that site, too!

Anyway, long story short – I fell in love with her ladybug illustration and emailed her to let her know that and I asked if it would be possible to use it on the logo for the new fundraiser website that I started for my daughter who was newly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, Caylin’s Cure. She was so gracious and sweet and told me that it was totally ok and she even created it a bit differently for me – just the way Caylin wanted it. Caylin has ALWAYS loved ladybugs and it was so special to have that sweet graphic on the logo for our charity. I was so grateful and knew right then that not only was Cally a super talented illustrator, but a super sweet person, too. :)

Here’s the sweet ladybug:

Totally adorable, right? Sigh. ;)

So when I found out that Cally was illustrating some really cute children’s books – I just had to get my hands on one and review it because I knew it would be so adorable and sweet! Boy, was I right!

“Elephantantrum” is such a cute story. The story is of a little girl named Ellie who is a bit on the spoiled side. Ok, she’s A LOT on the spoiled side. ;) She already has EVERYTHING, but wants an elephant and she was not backing down until she got one. She even throws a temper tantrum or two. ;)

Well, her Dad ends up getting her that elephant that she so desperately wants, but little does she know that the elephant ends up teaching her some valuable lessons along the way.

This story is seriously so cute! Cally’s illustrations are just so adorable in the book! I love the way she uses different mediums of art! The book is whimsical and fun and better yet – a great way to remind children that they can’t have everything their way and that manners ARE important. This is definitely another one of those must-have children’s book for your child’s collection. It would make a super cute gift, too!

“Elephantantrum” was written by Gillian Shields and is available on Amazon in the UK HERE. It’ll be available in the United States in paperback later this Fall so be on the lookout for it!

You can also find Cally HERE on her blog, HERE on Facebook and HERE on Twitter.

Hope you pick up a copy of this book! Have a great day! :)

  • Cally sweetly provided me a copy of the book, “Elephantantrum” but all opinions of the book are solely my own. It’s seriously a super sweet and adorable book that you MUST add to your children’s library.

Cally’s illustrations consistently cause me to smile and feel like all is good in the world. She is not only talented and generous (love Caylin’s ladybug!!), but such a sweetheart of a human being. What a lovely review of her book. : )
