Symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes

I think it’s very important to educate others when it comes to Type 1 Diabetes. I’ll be honest, before my daughter was diagnosed, I didn’t know THAT much about type 1. I definitely want to show you all a little glimpse into our lives with type 1, but it’s also very important to me to discuss the serious & important information in regards to the disease to help others better understand type 1 and to recognize it in their own loved ones.  This post today is dedicated to what the symptoms of type 1 diabetes are.

They are:

  • Extreme thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Drowsiness, lethargy
  • Sugar in urine
  • Sudden vision changes
  • Increased appetite
  • Sudden weight loss
  • Fruity, sweet, or wine-like odor on breath
  • Heavy, labored breathing
  • Stupor, unconsciousness

Symptoms can come on suddenly and in the case of our daughter, they came about as she was getting over a cold. If you think your child has any of these symptoms or if you have any concern, the best thing to do is to see a doctor immediately.

  • I am not a doctor and still have a lot to learn about type 1 so please seek medical advice from your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

I think it’s great how much you do for the Diabetic community and educating people about it!
it’s very scary! My boss (when I was a nanny) had type 1. he got it after being really sick in college, it came on right after he was sick, I think that happens a LOT……
he had it so bad, it could not be regulated hardly at all.
he ended up falling in the backyard, when he got low one time, and it ended his career as a urological surgeon, so heartbreaking. his hands became paralyzed after the fall.
I can’t say enough about educating people about this disease!
    great job k~!
